It's the holiday weekend and Greyhawk at the Mudville Gazette is pulling together "A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AMERICA" for this 4th of July. This is my part.
Once again, I amaze myself at my ability to schedule the hardest drive at the most interesting times.
So guess where I was? Go ahead, Guess
That's Right Folks - Daytona Beach Florida!! Home of the Pepsi 400 (well, this weekend anyway).
I wish the traffic wouldn't have been so heavy, I'd have gotten some great shots of the crowds. Or at least better shots from the phone/cam.
There were so many people. Everyone with their favorite racing teams' gear proudly displayed. The flags for all the different teams were snapping in the air, adding to the excitment. Even with all the people, there was nothing but a sense of fun - I didn't see any fights or hear any arguments (but then again, it was fairly early in the day). Everyone had come out to have a great day at the races and celebrate the Holiday.
Of course there was booth after booth of food and drink. What?!?! How'd that Coke booth get in here??? Don't they realize this is the PEPSI 400?? Go, Scat - get back to Atlanta where you belong! (sorry, old loyalties die hard) Ummmm, I smell fried dough. I love fried dough, especially with powdered sugar. But, doesn't go so well with beer so I better pass.
The music is blaring so loud I can hear it from my car on the street. It's fantastic. And it's not just one thing. If you listen carefully you can hear some Rock, ohhhh - there's some country!!! (If you didn't realize by now I'm a country girl at heart.) Something for everyone!!
What - you want actual pictures of the race? Are you kidding? I was working, I couldn't go. But if it makes you feel any better, I did have to pass up 2 primo seats.
UPDATE: Have I mentioned how much I love my new picture phone??!! This is the view from my family room - you can well imagine what I'll be doing after store runs are finished!!
