Saturday Question of the Day

Every Saturday I'll try to come up with some "out there" question that just makes you stop and think about something not so important. Think of it as a mini vacation. If you have any ideas drop me a line and we'll throw it in here. Who knows, it might be fun.

OK - Here goes:

What is your happiest 4th of July memory? (I know, corny, but appropriate - don't ya think!)

Mine is one from the summer I turned 13. We were spending the holiday at my mother's best friends cottage with their family. We spent the entire time in the lake, swimming and playing. We grilled out every meal (yes, even breakfast) and had what, to me, was the best fireworks display I'd ever seen.

Actually, it's the only Independence Holiday that sticks out in my mind. I just remember laughing so hard my stomach hurt. Staying up late, even though I was so tired I couldn't see straight. I remember spending time with family and really CELEBRATING the day.

So, what's your favorite 4th of July memory?

Believe it or not Tammi, it was just last year. Maybe I'm having long-term memory loss, but it was so good to be home (only a month at that time) from the war, and eight months at sea. We went down to the beach at Del Mar, sat on the grass of the park, and watched the fireworks from LaJolla to our south, and Oceanside to the north. All of us together, and the ocean air was like a fine red wine. It was... perfect.

Thanks for sharing that. I know exactly where you are talking about. I was there just last fall. My friends have a townhouse up on a hill over looking Del Mar Downs and we spent many evenings walking the beach there at Del Mar and sitting in the park. I bet that was just beautiful.

I'm so glad you were home to enjoy it.

My favorite memory is when I was about 11 years old and one of my last summer excursions back East. I used to spend the entire summer in New York going to all the relatives homes and spending my entire vacation with them. This particular summer, I was with my Grandparents at their home in the Adirondack Mountains in NY.

We were going to a barbecue at friends house, and the bridge was being constructed, so you had to take the ferry across Lake Sacandaga. We got there and had a wonderful time. Lots of people and kids.

It was the first time I saw my Grandmother water skiing! She used to do it all the time. I tried too, but the skis were too big. We ate, laughed, ran and played all day long. At night we shot off firworks and watched the fireworks going off from the village.

It was a wonderful day! I'll never forget it!
