My Daddy died August 7, 1971. I first introduced this wonderful man to you here.
What I don't think I've mentioned is what happened directly following the plane crash that killed both he and my uncle.
That hot summer morning my Mama rounded up my sister and I to run do some running and keep us busy so none of us missed Daddy too much while he was on his fishing trip.
We were in the car, driving from the grocery store to the cleaners to a friends house and home again. Took up most of the morning.
When we got home the driveway had many cars in it and Mama's friends were standing on the cement courtyard outside the back door.
There was a note on the door. The note said: Please contact the K* County police regarding a fatal accident involving W. G.
A note. A flippin' note.
But what really got to us is how so many people knew!
You wanna know how?
The damned MSM released the details of the accident, including names, as soon as it happened. Mama's friends heard about it on the radio. On. The. Radio.
We were driving around with the radio on! How we didn't hear it is beyond me. I like to believe it was by the grace of God.
But they released the details BEFORE THE FAMILY HAD BEEN NOTIFIED!!
So what brought on this memory? Well the shooting in Atlanta - that's what. I've got FOX News on as I'm working on reports and that's all they are talking about. They have released the name of the judge and said that he is dead. They have announced that the court reporter is also dead. FOLKS - the family will most probably know if their loved one was the reporter for that judge. Not releasing the name doesn't shield them in any way.
Now - the Sherrif's office is refusing to give any details. But it doesn't matter now. The MSM has plastered it across the airwaves.
It's wrong. It's disrespectful to the families involved and to the victims. This is not how they would want their families to be informed.
Damn - I hate when they do things like this.
Posted by Tammi at March 11, 2005 10:39 AMYeah, sigh, I live in Atlanta and was watching when they pulled boner. Of course the family knew. It gets worse. The local radio stations were advised by the sheriffs office that it was OK to release the names, so they did, immediately, live break-in news. Then, about 45 minutes later, the sherriffs office TOOK IT BACK! I still want to beat these guys sensless...no, I take it back...someone beat me to it. Asshats all!!
Posted by: P Mann at March 11, 2005 08:29 PMP.S. found you through Sissy @Whatnext. Glad I did. sorry you and your other had that expereience with your Dad and Uncle died. Sux. Asshats then too.
Posted by: P Mann at March 11, 2005 08:32 PMI was shocked when the judge's name was released so quickly. There was no way that next of kin much less immediate family could have been notified is such a short time.
Members of the MSM act like vultures when things like this happen, and I know I've just insulted vultures. In this case, though, per Paul's comment that the sheriff's office approved release of the information and then tried to retract the permission, I can't blame the MSM. The assumption, I assume, was that when the sheriff gave the okay, the families had been notified.
Added to a lone officer moving Nichols from jail to the court house, and let's not forget not even thinking to check the parking garage the green Honda had been taken in to see if it had, in fact, been driven out of it . . .
Sheesh!
