Bad News

I just got another one of "those" phone calls. There's been a death in the family.

My cousin is a pilot. An EMS Helicopter Pilot.

He, along with two paramedics, were responding to an emergency call Tuesday night in the San Padre Island, Texas area when due to severe weather they had to abort the misson.

Communication was lost and the wreckage was found approx. 2 hours later.

They found my cousin's body yesterday.

Please keep our family, especially Robert's wife and children and his parents, in your thoughts and prayers. As well as the family and friends of the other victims.

Heroes......we've lost more heroes. God Bless 'em all!

I hope you can take some degree of comfort knowing your cousin died doing something he loved... helping others.
Those of us taking on this risk know the possibilities. We also know we would want others to take the risk should our loved ones need help. There's just no way to take all the risk out of the job... flying entails risk in itself. Add to that risk the additional stresses of weather, night flying, landing in unprepared areas... now and then there are going to be mishaps. I'm SO sorry you've lost a loved one.

But to paraphrase General Patton-
Let's not long grieve for the loss of such brave people, but celebrate the fact that some are willing to take such risk to help others.

Soldiers, Policemen, Firemen, EMS personnel, and oddly, those that work in some ER's...
there are others I'm no doubt forgetting.
Your cousin was a hero.
Celebrate his life.
