Good Things

So my sister and neice got here last night. I made a simple but yummy dinner (yellow rice, chicken and black beans) and we all sat down to enjoy it. Way back when I first started blogging I wrote about the family table. Man was that hammered home last nite!

They arrived around 7:30pm and we got all the hugging and stuff out of the way. After a brief tour of the house I start to put dinner on the table.

As we sit there talking about their trip (my neice HATES to fly) and catching up on what's happened since I was home I had one of the "moments". You know, the kind where you see everything from outside the situation. I saw the three of us sitting at the table, laughing and talking. My neice watching every move I made, my sister telling stories and making me laugh. It was very cool. It felt very good.

So Dawn asks how many dinner parties or pool parties I've had. None. WHAT?! Well, it's been a little busy, and I haven't been 100% for a while now. So yeah, none.

My neice took over. She wants to pick out the floating candles for the pool and the other stuff I want for the deck area. She is hell bent that I have a BBQ and housewarming party. So being the Take Charge gal that she is (wonder where she got THAT from!) she started making plans while my sister I and sat and finished our fruit.

But what really got me is how good it felt to have people in the house. I didn't even mind the fact that I had to watch Teenage Girl TV. In fact, I actually kinda enjoyed it.

The TV was blaring, everyone was talking - noise noise noise. Laughter laughter laughter.

But the best part of all, was sitting around that kitchen table and just being a family. It felt really good.

That's my favorite part about going to my folk's house, everyone around the table. I've instilled the family dinner in my house. We eat together every night. Good memories! Have fun!

I usually find social occasions a bore, but there are a select few friends & relatives who give me that "good to be alive" feeling.

Sounds wonderful Tammi! As Machelle says, you'll probably get well faster with them there - happiness does that. Enjoy!

Sounds like you're all having a good time. Bet your niece is glad she skipped out on "wristband day."

So are we all invited to the party? (holding can of Redi-whip) :)

That has warmed my heart that others are there to take care of you, make you laugh, smile and enjoy your new home. I'm very, very glad to hear it. (And sorry we've not been there yet!)

Let us know when the party is...we'll be there with bells on. LITERALLY!
