Your Input Needed - again...

It's been pointed out to me that I really don't understand/know/get the way guys think.

Huh. Imagine that. I'm a girl. Whoda thunk...

Anyway - for work, I kinda need to know how the younger (like elementary school age) boys would think. At least what they are interested in, what catches their attention.

So - I'm going to use one of my lifelines and ask the "audience".

Those of you who have elementary age children (especially boys), spend time with them or if you guys out there can remember that far back....HELP!!!

OK - I'm pulling together what we call a "Back To School" line. Stuff that can be put in that section of stores next year as y'all are preparing for, well, school.

We had a series of folders that were alright. You could decorate them, but they weren't GREAT. Actually, I hate them. BUT - we have some awesome 3D stickers - letters, animials, sports, pirates - that are GREAT for putting on folders to declare your individuality. They retail for $1 a bag. There's enough in a bag to do a folder perfectly. So - my question is, will boys buy this kind of stuff? Or should I just focus on the girls and taylor the line for them?

I've got a huge call next week, with a customer that I really really want to land. The meat of my meeting is for Back To School. If this works it will be the line I have everyone on my team present. So please, please please - can you help me think like a guy???????!!!!!!!

Boobies.

Er..wait..young kids. Oh right.

Bob the Builder, seems real popular with boys at my daughters daycare. So does almost any type of Toy Tool

I say this because Critter steals them, and the boys cry about it. Hehe.

It's been a few years... he's 15 now... but any trendy thing was hit or miss with him. His older sister was more predictable but he thought most things were stupid... I can't imagine having to plan a line for them...

But did he every personalize (sounds more manly than decorate) their folders or notebooks? Should I just forget about the sports stickers ect and put the girly stuff and try to hook 'em another way?

Cause ya know I'm gonna hook 'em right? They've got disposable income. I've got cool stuff. It's just like any other good mathmatical formula. a + b = c :-)

With regard to my issue, Chaos, Mayhem and Entropy, the following applies:

Chaos (Age 10): Anything camoflage, anything military themed

Mayhem (Age 7): Anything with dinosaurs, dinosaur bones or dinosaur related

Entropy (Age 5): Anything pink. Hell, if you painted dog poo pink she'd want some!

As a guy who's stuck at 16 mentally and the father of a 13 year old I can speak with some experience. We generally decorated our folders with drawings we made, usually of band or team logos, or with pictures from magazines, usually bands, teams or girls.

Boopies folders are all drawn over with pen and marker.

My boys have never decorated their folders... that, however, may be a private school thing.

If they WERE to decorate their folders, bugs, pirates, dinosaurs and sports would be big. They cover their books with these special book covers that are big. They love funky things like those. Also they decorate the inside of their locker and wish there was more boy themed stuff that way.

If we were in a store that promoted decorating folders... that might be big. I know Killer Rabbits from Monte Python is not an option... ;-)

The things I used to draw on my folders and book covers would probably get a kid put in counseling nowadays.

Come to think of it, it would have then too if I could draw worth a damn and you could tell what it was (you know how hard it is to draw a hippie being strangled with his own intestines?)

Fire!

Lightning!

Cars!

Shiny things!

Tanks!

LOUD THINGS!

Does that help? :)
