Bang the Drum

Geez, I hope this post doesn't cause me to give any one the "wrong idea", but it's something I just need to ask.

Yesterday I was sitting in the living room, watching Drumline, talking with Army Wife on the phone. I mentioned that I actually enjoyed this movie for a couple of reasons.

1) I used to be in the marching band and "got" the whole contest mentality.

2) Percussion turns me on.

Seriously - there is just something about drums that is just so, so, so primal. I made the mistake of mentioning it to someone else one day, just in conversation - and I'm tellin' you. The look on their face made me think maybe I'm wierd.

Well - the reaction from AW was just the same. Except she told me outright - that's just weird.

So - I'm wonderin'. Is it just me? Come on - don't leave me hangin' like this folks......

So that's why Lucy married Ricky Ricardo.

Ba-Ba-LOO!!!

The Drum Line is my favorite part of marching bands. I just love hearing them and I would go as far to say that they turn me on just a little too.

Something about the rythmic (sp?) beat, you can feel it in your heartbeat.

Thank you Machelle.Thats EXACTLY what I meant....

Have you seen the show called 'BLAST!' ? It's a field show on stage. From TV you don't get the drum reverberation in your chest like a live performance. Sure gets the toes tapping along.

Would now be a bad time to mention I was in Spirit of Georgia Drum & Bugle Corp a few years ago? :)

i LOVED that movie. i was in the pit in marching band. and yes. drums are sexy. the drum solos are the very best parts of any marching band performance.

You're not alone...I find that movie as sexy as hell. There is just something primal about it and it just gets ya. 'Nuff said.

(And I was never a band geek...but then again, the guys in the band didn't look like that either.)

Drums/percussion do it for some people. If you want a real rush, listen to the opening of Heather Alexander's March of Cambreadth -- especially outside after dark. Wonder what your reaction would be to Japanese Taiko (sp?) drumming...

Bloodspite -- LOL!

I love that movie. Count me in for those who get off on the percussion section. Even dated me a drummer in high school... snare. Our drumline was voted #1 in the Nation. I could watch and listen to them FOR HOURS.

A reminder folks, they are drums...

is it the big phallic drum stick. pounding the big cervical looking drum?

I don't get this at all, but let me just say, I am gonna be really careful about what kind of music I play around you horn dogs...

drums?

who would have thought?

Posted by: armywifetoddlermom at August 13, 2006 03:40 PM

No doubt... weird.

Horn dogs? Me?

Posted by: Bou at August 13, 2006 09:04 PM

I LUV percussion and my best dance performance was done to Sheila E.'s Conga song. But I must say, though I like it, it doesn't turn me on, however, I can easily see how it could do that for someone.

I'm with ya Tammi! Oh, the drummers! Dated plenty of them!

And yes, that's a good movie.

Posted by: Sissy at August 13, 2006 10:48 PM

i loved it too. I was in colorguard and hubby's best friend was in the USC marching band, so yeah, I am SOOOO a band groupie and I love that movie, too.

Posted by: caltechgirl at August 13, 2006 11:15 PM

I haven't seen the movie, but I'm an Arizona State marching alumni and Oh yeah! Love the drums! Maybe we can get to the Phantom Regiment sometime.

There is nothing like a good drum pounding to make you want to get down and dirty.

AW - you just can't admit I WAS RIGHT! I'm not completely skewed. I'm normal. Ok, I'm not abnormal. Ok, there are others like me!!!

;-)

We just have to take AWTM to a college Marching Band show with a good drum line....especially if there's a competition.

Maybe they just don't grow 'em right where she's from ;-)

I watched it too and I'm with Tammi - Drums are hot... (Otherwise how would Ringo *ever* have gotten laid???)

Posted by: Richmond at August 14, 2006 04:55 PM

I was a Madison Scout fan myself. Phantom Regiment... damn, they were a close 2nd. We had one of their former snare drummers as our drum instructor the year we won best drum line at Nationals. Damn he was hot.

Posted by: Bou at August 14, 2006 10:00 PM

out of all honesty, I do not get this....drums people?

....huh?

Laet me just say this, I SOOOOO do not mind being the odd man out on this one...

drum?

really?

nest thing I know, you all will think band outfits are hot....

and I do not mean HOT...I mean hawt....

you are all NUTZ

Posted by: armywifetoddlermom at August 15, 2006 02:30 PM

No, band outfits pretty much suck. I will tell you though... there is nothing HOTTER than a man in a kilt playing the snare... no shirt. Holy crap.

Posted by: Bou at August 15, 2006 02:37 PM

me? I kinda get off to a gal getting off to drums...
Is that an answer to whatever the question was?
