Saturday Question of the Day

Every Saturday I'll try to come up with some "out there" question that just makes you stop and think about something not so important. Think of it as a mini vacation. If you have any ideas drop me a line and we'll throw it in here. Who knows, it might be fun.

OK - Here goes

Who was the first fictional hero you remember admiring? That person/icon/cartoon that you just HAD to either be just like or that you had a serious crush on.

I loved Mr. Clean. Seriously - I remember being just a young 'un and thinking how cute he was, with the bald head and that sparkling smile. Plus - the dude is BUFF. I even wrote a paper about him in the 5th grade. It spurred an interesting conversation between the teacher and Mom. I think it was because I did spend a bit of time on his appearance, plus it was supposed to be a factual piece on someone alive or dead that we admired. Well.......he kinda falls into that category!!

Plus - he made people happy. If he was in your home is was clean and everyone was smiling. Mom didn't need to work so hard, so she had more time to spend with the family......yeah - everyone wins.

Anyway - who was your FIRST FICTIONAL hero?

The first hero I wanted to be was Luke Skywalker. I so wanted to have the force and swing light sabers around. Now today I want to be Darth Vader... go figure.

OMG. I can't believe I'm going to answer this. I'm so... ashamed.

Speed Racer. I was 6. I thought he was a hottie. I should have known then I'd have something for dark eyed and dark haired men...

My first fictional hero? Kermit the Frog. I watched a LOT of Sesame Street as a lad, and all the characters seemed to be either childish or patronizing. Kermit just seemed friendly, intelligent, inquisitive & optimistic.

Oscar the Grouch was pretty cool, too. Confident, opinionated, outspoken, and his scathing sarcasm was a nice counterpoint to some of the other characters' smarmy feel-goodism.

I can't remember which came first for me - Mighty Mouse, or Underdog. Before either of them was Woody Woodpecker, but I don't suppose he counts as a "hero" considering he was really just a little troublemaker! But Mighty Mouse and Underdog set about righting the world's wrongs, etc...

The Coyote in Roadrunner. I knew that if I could be him for just one day, I'd catch that bird!

I remember being madly in love with David Bowie in Labyrinth. I don't remember the name of his character anymore, but I just knew he was my dream guy (I think I was like 8 or 9).

Male:
The Marlboro Man... I loved him...
I should sue...his sexiness is probably why I still smoke Marlboros to this day;)

Female:
Marilyn Monroe (in Some Like It Hot)...
I watched that all the time when I was little and she is still my standard of femininity and beauty -screw little Paris Hilton...Marilyn was a woman...

Ishi. It was years before I discovered that he was real...

Pure fiction? Superman.

Umm - weirdly enough, the first one I remember truly thinking that about was Lazarus Long (Heinlein / Time enough for love). Don't even want to think about telling my husband that one!
