Saturday Question of the Day

Every Saturday I'll try to come up with some "out there" question that just makes you stop and think about something not so important. Think of it as a mini vacation. If you have any ideas drop me a line and we'll throw it in here. Who knows, it might be fun.

OK - Here goes:

It's Halloween. From what I've seen over the blog world it seems to be a holiday everyone enjoys. So....tell me, what is it about Halloween that you enjoy the most?

For me it's the excitment. Not just of the kids, but everyone. It's the one holiday you really get to let your hair down. Everyone plays!!!

The first year I moved to Florida our company decided we could either dress corporate for the day or in costume. That particular year, Halloween fell on a Friday, which was my day to visit customers. They were all casual fridays, so I said I would dress up like a cowgirl. Jeans, boots, cowboy hat. Nope. Not allowed. WTF?!?! OK? You want a costume. You got it!

I wore jeans to visit my plant and then asked if they would help me play a joke on my boss. Of course they agreed. So....I went in and changed into my XXLarge flannel night gown. Put on a pair of hiking boots and tube socks. Put my hair up in rollers and then put white foundation on my face to look like cold cream. Voila! I was a redneck housewife. Everyone loved it and thought it hilariously out of character (yeah, they didn't know me so well, did they?!)

I then pulled out the digital camera and had them take a picture. (Picture has since been lost.) They printed it out and faxed it to my boss with the question asking just exactly what kind of sales people did they have that called on customers like they? Children??

I show up at the office in my costume. I followed all the rules (as far as they knew). They were not amused. I thought it was funny as hell. I didn't admit to the prank for years. He was still not amused.

I love to dress up, play pranks and hell - just play.

So what is it about Halloween that YOU enjoy the most???

As a kid, every Halloween, my Mom used to run us around to all the relations. That's alot of running! I still think of going to my great grandma's or my grandfather's places when it rolls around.

At my ripe old age, I probably will say the memories of easier times when Trick'n'treating was fun..... and safe.
2 things come to mind.
There was a family, whose father taught with my mom at the University and he gave out Archie Comics instead of candy. That was way cool back then.
The other was the last stop at the "House On Top Of The Hill". (Yes we saw it in Caps)
The people owned the local dairy/deli back home and for Halloween they would invite the kids in, you got to sit at this HUGE dining room table that probably seated 40, and were served Hot Chocolate, popcorn balls and brownies. Of course all of us kids managed to get there at the same time, so it was like a party to end the night.

Thanks Tammi for bringing back the memories.

I love helping my guys put together great costumes...at 4 and almost 6 they both like vintage stuff which is awesome. I love making up the candy bags with fun stuff in them (I think the kids get ripped off these days)...and most of all I love the 'smell' of Halloween --it takes me right back to 1977 and walking down my mom's street, in my Princess Tiger Lily costume, kicking the fallen red and yellow leaves with my beaded moccasins...

The candy!

Duh.

(You don't really think adults buy all that stuff intending to hand it all out to the kidlets, do ya?

This year, it was watching my 3 year-old and her friends be the "Three Princesses" while I wore my death skull mask underneath my Red Sox cap and proclaimed myself to be what A-Rod will wake up to every night until spring! The three girls were great, and I was greeted by many New Englanders over here on the military base in Stuttgart, Germany.
