I'm not going to do a indepth post on the Annie Jacobsen article. Nope, not gonna go there. So many wonderful bloggers have done insightful pieces and I've participated in the comment conversations there. This isn't about THAT incident, it's a product of the thought process.
I have just one question. We are in a Global War on Terror. After 9/11 this country united in a way it hasn't in decades. We have asked our Military to go and confront this danger, this evil. We, as citizens, are expecting our government to make our land a safer place. What are WE doing? If we are asking our troops to put it all on the line, what are we willing to do? Isn't a bit of embarrassment from over reacting a little thing? Isn't having to say "I'm sorry - but your actions concerned me", a small enough price to pay.
There's no such thing as a free ride.

I'm hoping that after this incident, "racial profiling" stops being a dirty word and starts becoming standard operating procedure.
And how DID they fail to notice that the VISAs were expired? Isn't the expiration date stamped right on it? And wouldn't you check the visa along with the other ID? And isn't the expiration date one of the things you check, even if you're just glancing at it?
I check for the exp. date on drivers licenses at work, and I'm just cashing checks.
