Well Duh!

Those were the first words I said when I saw this article online. (first two paragraphs)

Filipino truck drivers working in the Middle East are now banned from entering Iraq to prevent another kidnapping by terrorists in that country.

President Arroyo ordered the Department of Foreign Affairs Friday to ensure that Filipino truck drivers working in countries near Iraq are stopped at the border should they attempt to enter that country.

I wondered about that when I saw this headline earlier today: Undaunted, Filipinos Head for Iraq.

I mean, I think it's pretty clear that if the terrorists got what they wanted the first time, and you give them another opportunity - they're gonna do it again, expecting the same outcome.

Actually I applaude the Filipino government for realizing that yes - they've set themselves up and yes, you better keep your people out of there! They've just become one of the "sure things".

Unfortunately, they've set others up for the same fate. When you reward a particular behavior, you get more of the same. This is the most basic concept in psychology. Too bad the Filipino government hasn't figured this out yet.
