I'm sure you all have seen the headlines "Arnold calls Legislature Girlie-Men" and heard all the rigamarow that has ensued.
I'm linking to the San Francisco Chronicle as my reference for a couple of reasons.
I knew it would be very biased against the Governor and I really wanted to see what they had to say, and how they said it.
Also - it covers the story as well as any of the other media does, and it's a California paper, I wanted a local spin.
First they keep saying it was a slam on women and gays. Get over yourselves for goodness sake. That phrase was made popular by the show Saturday Nite Live decades ago. It's become a common phrase in our language. I use it - and I'm not slamming gays or women. I'm slamming the person or people it's aimed at. I'm telling them they don't have the balls to do what they need to do. Get it - they are acting like men without balls. Men without gumption. People without the fortitude to follow through.
Over the years, television, movies and music have changed the way we talk. Hell, there are websites out there to translate this stuffl
Let's face it - this is all a smoke screen to keep the voters from realizing that what he is saying is true. They have stalled on the vote. They are catering to special interest groups. He's just doing what everyone should do - call them on it!!
How 'bout this for biased:
Schwarzenegger concluded a three-day tour in Stockton on Sunday by continuing to bad-mouth Democratic lawmakers, asking hundreds of people packed into a mall's food court to act as "terminators'' against those who stand in the way of a budget compromise.
"I want you to go out there and go after those Democratic legislators,'' he urged to wild applause. "They are obstructionists. Go out there and vote them out of office. Vote them out of office, and we will put new faces in there.''
Sounds to me like a good speech. I can't find one other phrase that could possibly be considered "bad mouthing". Instead, he says things in a way that people understand - instead of all that PC, over their heads speak we get so much of. And - how is telling people that their representatives are holding up legislature and that they should be voted out considered "bad mouthing"?
It's just good public speaking, good politics (for a change). He's talking TO the people, not AT them. He's pointing out a problem and, since the solution is in the hands of the voters, asking for their help.
Let's be honest for a second - For those "of an age" - who didn't love that girlie man line, and use it?!?! It's a part of our language now.
Get over yourselves folks. Let's get some work done instead of all this gnashing of teeth and needless wailing. Personally I like the way he's going at this, but you probably picked up on that.
Posted by Tammi at July 19, 2004 07:28 AM | TrackBackI loved this, too. One important thing to point out; not a thing is said about his accusing the Dems of delaying the budget by catering to special interests. Just point and cry about being called girlie men, and nobody will notice anything else. Nice tactic. I hope Arnold doesn't change his mind and apologize!
