Does This Make Me a Bad Person?

I want a dog. I've wanted one for some time now. I really want a little Yorkie puppy. They don't shed much and are too small to get on my furniture without my approval (and yes, my furniture is that big. I'm a big girl, I like big girl furniture).

Here's the catch. I cannot spend $700 on a dog. I just can't do it. For any reason. So, I've hemed and hawed and bitched and moaned. Today I did something about it.

I went to my local SPCA. I figured that was the right thing to do. Ohhh so many cute dogs. And a batch of puppies!! But - here's the catch. They are all "big" dogs. Even the puppies - Labs. Big Dogs.

I didn't get any today. As cute as they all were, and yes, I went in and played with them, I didn't get one. I really need a small dog. For several reasons.

I don't have much yard. The pool takes up most of it, and that is all cement. Not a lot of run space. Also - I'm gone most days, so a small dog can run around inside, but a big dog needs room to roam.

Also, I can take a small dog more places with me. If I do go visit friends, they don't mind the smaller dogs, but the bigger ones can cause problems.

So, the hunt is still on. But I gotta wonder if I'm becoming a cold fish in my old age. Few years ago, I'da walked out with one of the babies. Hmmm.

Try a rescue operations (ie Yorkie rescue). They rescue specific breeds of dogs from people who can no longer keep the dogs, etc. They usually only charge a minimal fee for the dogs.

My sis contacted the Samoa rescue society and they have a pure-breed AKC registered dog for only $100. His owner moved into an apt and they didn't allow dogs so he had to give him up. They have had him for 10 years now.

I'm trying to talk my hubby into getting a dog (it's going to take awhile) and have looked into several rescue societies. I want a Italian greyhound, they have a Italian greyhound rescue society.

Machelle beat me to it! Great advice! :)

Just Google Yorkshire Terrier rescue and find one in your area... There's usually one in every large city/area. Keep us updated!!

Oh I want a dog so badly! One of my kids only can handle docile dogs, so he wants a blind Lab. I'll pass.

Little yorkies are so cute! Good luck in finding one!

Rescue groups are good. Would your local SPCA take your name for a waiting list for one? We did that here for a Rottweiler. That's how we got Punch Puppy.

Good luck in the hunt for your baby.

Are you sure you wouldn't really rather have a cat? If you're busy Road Warrioring, you can just pour him a big bowl of food & let him fend for himself for however long.

When the timing is right, the puppy and the Mommy will be joined together! (Better soul than me, I can't resist labs, never tried. I would have figured some way to talk my darling hubby into it.)

You'll find your puppy, and I agree with everyone else. Check rescue groups and also contact vets in your new area. They may know someone whose going to have puppies and needs to find good homes. Just another thought.

Good luck! You'll find your little prince or princess. I've no doubts!
