Freedom!!!

School started around here this week. Not having children I wasn't even thinking about it. Oops - Tammi's late for work.

So...I'm driving down the highway just thinking about school and running down memory lane.

All of a sudden a memory came back so clear it was like watching a video. I was driving down a hilly, country road. It was late summer. Hot, sunny, humid. Corn fields everywhere (what *is it* with me and flippin' corn fields). I was listening to the Ramones on the stereo, windows down. As I passed a tractor I thought "this is one of the last summer vacations I will ever have. Now I'll have to be a grown up."

Man was I right.

That next spring I had to leave college and start into my new "real" life. No more 3 months off. No more lazy days at the lake with my best friend, talking about boys and drinkin'. Changing for my cashier's job in the car as I drove like a bat out of hell so I'd only be a little late.

I don't miss my teen or college years. They weren't all that great. But damn do I miss the freedom. I only wish we could get our children to appreciate how good they got it right now......

ahhhhhh......for 3 summers, I got up early went to work, and then went to the river as soon as the work day was done...

for cocktails, smoke, to sneak kisses......

we would chat, and age our young gorgeous skin in our bikinis

we would listen to the Ramones
Sex Pistols, ACDC,

we would baste our young skin with baby oil, and carry our what now would be "antiquated radios".....

ahhhh summer....I can still smell it if I try hard enough.....

Speaking of the Ramones. I got nostalgic and dug out Joey's picture and wrote a post about where he played. I was lucky enough to meet him and get to know him a bit. He was a really, really shy but sweet and thoughtful guy. Everybody loved him. Actually, he hung out so much down town near CBGB's they named a street after him.

Tammi, I think I would have loved to have grown up amongst the corn fields and near lakes like you did. BTW, the climbing of the water tower to watch the sunset must have been spectacular.

I read you via my pda so I can't comment in that format because your site takes too long to load w/graphics. But when I read that post I said outload to my pda one word hoping the vibes would be passed on to you - CAMERAPHONE!

Till munu is back up i can be found at: nypostcards.blogspot.com

where I share my own picture of a new york city sunset via cameraphone.

Best years of my life. If only I knew it then.
