Does This Mean I'm Trashy?

My first trash day in the new house. May not seem so important to many of you - but I've been surrounded by boxes and paper and am just thrilled at the opportunity to get rid of this stuff.

However - here's my question. Is there a LIMIT to how much trash a person is allowed?

Please note: I had a truck load of stuff. More boxes than this place will hold. They wrapped everything seperately, in tons of paper. I got a lot of trash!

So.....rather than be a difficult new customer I put out the boxes I had on the front porch and living room. I pulled all the paper out of the boxes and bagged it. 10 Large Trash Bags. Now.....I still have stuff in my bedroom and the storage room. But I figure for the next couple of weeks I'll just bag everything and break down the boxes. They should stash a way a bit better that way. Then just put it out a bit at a time.

But damn.......I didn't want the neighbors to think I was so, so, so trashy!!!

I once got a letter from my waste disposal company regarding the amount of trash I had set out. But that was after a holiday with a lot of big gifts for the kids and I took up most of the alley. Just throw most of it out at once. Usually they will send you one warning before they get nasty.

Leave a full bottle of Scotch with the trash. They'll forgive you :-)

Call the city hall and ask about guidelines, or visit their website (if they have one).

There are actually guidelines and you can get fined for going over the guidelines.

For example, in my city
- boxes must be broken down and tied together in a stack (same with newspapers and magazines)
- limited to 10 bags per week
- sticks must be no longer than 3 feet and bound in a bundle.

etc, etc, etc ....

I like my town -- anything you put by the curb gets taken away. When I moved, my trash pile was about 30 yards long down the street. I was proud.

We just have to careful when my sister comes to visit. I have to make sure she doesn't park in the street on garbage day.
